About AIR FRANCE-KLM
Air France-KLM is one of Europe’s largest airline groups, operating two long-established national carriers: Air France and KLM. The group was formed in 2004, when the two airlines merged under a single holding company while keeping separate brands, fleets, and hubs. Today, Air France-KLM operates a global network of around 320 destinations, anchored by its main hubs in Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol, which support long-haul connections to North America and Asia and serve regions with strong leisure and business travel demand. Passenger transport is the group’s core activity, accounting for around 80–82% of total revenues (structure as of 2025), but Air France-KLM also operates cargo, aircraft maintenance (MRO), and a large loyalty program (Flying Blue). The MRO business serves external airline customers and provides more stable earnings than passenger traffic, while the loyalty program supports repeat demand and partner revenues. Premium and corporate travel play an important role in profitability: since 2023, premium revenues have increased by about 12%, helping support EBITDA even when economy demand softens. Following the pandemic, Air France-KLM has focused on strengthening cash generation and its balance sheet. As of end-September 2025, net debt to EBITDA stood at around 1,6×, supported by approximately €9,5bn of cash. The group is investing heavily in fleet renewal, with new-generation aircraft representing about 32% of the fleet in 2025, targeting up to 80% by 2030, which is expected to reduce unit costs and emissions over time. Air France-KLM is partly owned by the French state (about 28%) and the Dutch state (about 9%), underscoring its strategic importance, while rating agencies assess the group on a standalone basis.
